The Underberg Show brought top honours to KwaZulu-Natal in the Champion Beef Show category at the South African Fatstock Judging Association’s (SAFJA) gala awards held on Friday evening at Platrand Lodge near Ladysmith.
With a score of 91.00, the Underberg Show was named Champion Beef Show in South Africa, with the Jakkalskop Vetvee Skou a close second on 89.40 and the Leniesdeel Vetvee Skou third on 85.30.
SAFJA judges its Beef Shows on a combination of the quality of the animals, the number of people attending the show, the show’s social media presence, and the opportunities provided for those exhibiting to be educated to produce better beef cattle.
Education is key, and Senior Judge Johan Odendaal emphasized that in scoring show societies for these awards, SAFJA rewards shows that encourage farmers to attend the live judging on the hoof. The more farmers in attendance, the better, as it is vital to educate farmers in order to improve breeds.
Congratulations to Storm Storah and the Underberg Show committee, and to all their exhibiting beef farmers for holding such a top-quality 2024 beef show!
