The Carcass Competition awards ceremony will begin at 16h00 on Monday 27 May, in the Sheep Expo Hall, and will be followed by the Carcass Auction.

The auctioneer on the day will be Brandon Leer, of Brandon Leer Auctioneers, and the auction will be facilitated by AAM.

This is a splendid occasion for buyers, butchers and restaurants to compete for lamb, beef and pork, judged to be the best in the country.

It is also an opportunity for winning bidders to capitalise on the exposure and publicity this brings their establishments.

This is a live auction, but telephone bidding can be facilitated. Those wishing to bid telephonically should please contact AAM’s Cathy van der Wath at 083 584 9260.

Convenient, complimentary parking and access will be offered to confirmed bidders. This must be arranged in advance, and interested bidders must contact Ms M Mitchell at the Royal Agricultural Society before 21 May, on 033 345 6274 or admin2@royalshow.co.za.

General

  • The carcasses will not be on display at the showgrounds. Instead, they will be portrayed on the screen via good quality photographs.

  • All carcasses not auctioned at the Royal Showgrounds will be sold by the abattoir in terms of their normal trading conditions.

  • Unless the buyer wishes to arrange collection, all champion carcasses auctioned will be delivered by the abattoirs (free of charge); the proviso being that this is in their normal delivery area.

  • Format to be on a cents per kilogram basis.

  • Buyers interested in purchasing exhibition grade carcasses not being auctioned are invited to liaise with the abattoirs directly (during the course of the week commencing 20 May). Contact details will be provided on request.
